The problem
The brand had built a strong following on Instagram and was doing well with direct traffic. But AI shopping is growing fast. When people asked ChatGPT for sustainable fashion recommendations or asked Perplexity to compare minimalist clothing brands, this brand was nowhere. Their head of e-commerce ran 50 test prompts and found the brand in zero AI answers. Meanwhile, three direct competitors appeared in over 30 prompts each.

What we did
Prompt research
We mapped 1,540 prompts across fashion, sustainability, and shopping categories. Fashion turned out to have a huge prompt surface area. People ask AI about specific occasions, price ranges, materials, and style categories. We found 23 high-volume prompt clusters where the brand should appear but did not.
Citation building
We built citations on 19 high-authority sources including fashion editorial databases, sustainability directories, material certification lists, and style comparison resources. We also restructured the brand's product data to match the schema AI models prefer when generating shopping recommendations.
Monitoring and growth
Citations grew faster than expected because fashion AI prompts are highly interconnected. Getting cited in "sustainable brands" started pulling the brand into "minimalist fashion" and "Scandinavian style" prompts automatically. We monitored daily and optimized for the highest-converting prompt categories.
